About the data

Everything here is read, not written. What a faction page states comes from one of three places, and each page says which.

1. The game client, for each version

Every version of the game ships its data tables inside the client, and wago.tools publishes them as they are. From Faction comes the name, the description the reputation pane shows, the pane's order and headers, the cap, and for each of four race groups where that group starts and whether the pane shows it the row at all. From SpellEffect come the reputation gains the client states — the battleground spells, the turn-in spells, the racial that scales every gain — with the item that casts each where one does. From ItemSparse come the items a standing unlocks.

WoW Classic

  • 2801 Neutral Both But Alliance Can Attack: an AI-behaviour template row that build 1.60.1.70124 leaves with ReputationIndex 74; neither of its two race groups carries the hidden flag (0x04), so only this entry keeps it off the list.
  • 2807 DNT Test Reputation: a 'do not translate' test row (its description reads 'Will it break? Let's find out!').

The Burning Crusade

  • 1005 Friendly, Hidden: a utility row named for its own settings rather than a faction: every race starts Friendly (3000) with flag 0x04, which hides it from the pane, under a cap of 30000. No description, no header, no spell or item in this client grants or gates on it, and the Classic Era client has no such row.

Season of Discovery

2. The game itself, for what the client does not hold

Quest reputation, reputation from kills and the repeatable turn-ins most grinds are built on are decided on Blizzard's servers. No table states them. They enter a page only once they have been confirmed in game or in Blizzard's own footage, and the page names that confirmation beside the number. Until then the page says the route is not written yet, and asks search engines not to list it. Other guides are read as pointers to what to check, never as a source to copy.

3. The calculator

It counts with what the first two give it: the standing your race and class start at, the gains the client states, the turn-ins that have been confirmed and the part of the climb each works in, and the racial modifier read from its own spell. The standings and their point bands are the ones the game has had since 2004: Neutral 3,000, Friendly 6,000, Honored 12,000, Revered 21,000, Exalted. Where the game rounds a bonus point the client does not say, so the counts carry the fraction and say so.
